Proposal 2026-1: Constitutional Convention

Ballot Language:
A proposal to convene a constitutional convention for the purpose of drafting a general revision of the state constitution.
Shall a convention of elected delegates be convened in 2027 to draft a general revision of the State Constitution for presentation to the state’s voters for their approval or rejection?
Summary:
Every 16 years, the Michigan Constitution automatically places the first question on the ballot in the general election asking voters whether they want to hold a new Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) to amend the state constitution. A Con-Con allows delegates to rewrite and make sweeping changes to the state constitution—opening the door for politicians, billionaires, and special interest groups to write their own rules and agendas without any accountability or oversight from voters. Right now, everyday Michiganders have control of the Michigan Constitution. It needs to stay that way. A Con-Con would risk Michigan’s future and the progress Michigan voters have made on public education, reproductive freedom, and voting rights. The Michigan Constitution already provides an effective and successful mechanism allowing everyday voters to take direct action on important issues.
Our recommendation is NO on Proposal 2026-1.
Proposal 2026-2: Prohibit Campaign Contributions from Certain Regulated Utilities and Government Contractors

Ballot Language:
A proposed initiated law to prohibit campaign contributions from certain regulated utilities and government contractors and apply campaign finance laws and regulations to additional types of political communications
The proposal would:
- Prohibit regulated electric and gas utilities, contractors with over $250,000 annually in government contracts, and people and organizations with substantial connections to these utilities/contractors from making direct or indirect campaign contributions to those who run for or hold offices that impact them.
- Expand laws regulating spending on political communications, including those requiring disclosing donor information, to apply to communications clearly identifying candidates or ballot questions, even if they do not expressly advocate voting for/against them.
- Expressly apply the law requiring disclosure of who paid for political communications to internet political communications.
Should this proposal be adopted?
Summary:
The Money Out of Politics initiative addresses a fundamental issue: the need for elected officials to be accountable to the people, not corporations who are trying to line their own pockets. Michiganders are particularly concerned about the impact of corporate money on kitchen table issues like healthcare costs and utility bills, and this proposal is a critical step toward making our government work for everyone.
Michigan voters want an ethical, accountable, and transparent government that they can trust to work for the people, not special interests. By ending the corporate capture of our elected officials by regulated monopolies and government contractors, Michigan voters can have a stronger voice in our democracy and can hold both politicians and these corporations more accountable.
Our recommendation is YES on Proposal 2.
